Community Commitment

CHCH News has a strong sense of community, and this is prominent on-air as well as off. No matter what is happening in Hamilton, Halton or Niagara, CHCH News covers it like no one else can.

On average, CHCH News supports/sponsors more than 80 community initiatives each year and our news personalities host numerous galas and fundraising events. The station supports initiatives ranging from health and poverty issues to literacy and educational initiatives to the arts and entertainment. Over the last 16 years, CHCH News has helped McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton by supporting and airing their annual Celebration telethon. The telethon is hosted by veteran CHCH News anchors Connie Smith and Dan McLean and has helped generate over $37 million dollars for Mac Kids since its inception.

It was because of the vision and determination of founder and pioneer broadcaster Kenneth D. Soble that CHCH began transmitting to the public over 50 years ago. Today, the momentum continues to build as CHCH News provides an even stronger emphasis on reflecting the local concerns and interests of viewers throughout Hamilton, Halton and Niagara.

With local programming such as Morning Live, CHCH News at Noon, At Home, Live @ 5:30, CHCH News at 6, CHCH News at 11, Straight Talk, Niagara Express and Sportscope, CHCH News is committed to just over 40 hours of local programming each week.

There also exists a diverse spirit of community involvement among CHCH News employees with members taking active leadership roles in such areas as homelessness, area conservation and coaching. CHCH News is proud and appreciative of the community it serves, and is humbled by the numerous plaques and awards received.
